Yes it is Autumn in July. Many new eye-catching autumn colors to choose from this year. I decided to spend my Summer in Autumn! I love making these beautiful pumpkins! Their colors are so rich they make me want to curl up under a cozy blanket in front of a fire! A girl can dream can't she?</div>

I'm such a bad blogger! Sorry I haven't checked in for so long! So I have a lot to catch up on. I've been super busy with projects, building a house and new studio (I'll post on that when I have all the photos organized) but today I wanted to share a project I made for my Great Nephew, Caden!<br />
<br />
Caden loves pirates and maps and adventures, like his Dad. I wanted to create something for him that he could play with now but keep in his room, even as he grows older. So I created this...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGyHQEwKIpPqudD8STQId1v9u4Z5EoHfEHTGw4RYI3v2MuQI-W5WqUqjFqFLgdAi14iXOD1qbrmvCs3gTuZFoI9XCWjLVdZJZOZS37uS6WI14LElJS9MX156Tqqs8JZXIJhK5_WLgbGDk/s1600/IMG_9548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGyHQEwKIpPqudD8STQId1v9u4Z5EoHfEHTGw4RYI3v2MuQI-W5WqUqjFqFLgdAi14iXOD1qbrmvCs3gTuZFoI9XCWjLVdZJZOZS37uS6WI14LElJS9MX156Tqqs8JZXIJhK5_WLgbGDk/s320/IMG_9548.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had a (embarrassed to say) large pile of old jeans. You know the "I can do something with that" kind of pile. So I started out by cutting each of the states (following a pattern I bought off <a href="https://www.etsy.com/" target="_blank">Etsy</a> from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/carolinasquirrell?ref=ss_profile" target="_blank">CarolinaSquirrell</a>) being careful to highlight special features, such as pockets or embroidery, etc. See next photo, IL has a pocket with a PEACE sign on it! How fun this was!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTVw87HKoOE-JABOANFg7LIQ6tLlGnVekLviKCWVKjqpVUeUVGTMKkUKb-ITyRXq3UoUTlk02IjbMBtEaCYuDWKiM3HddnBGhrVkd_0Ws3N5d-fn_BGyq8tKuIsrbKa_9DRpBdxiOIo80/s1600/IMG_9550.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTVw87HKoOE-JABOANFg7LIQ6tLlGnVekLviKCWVKjqpVUeUVGTMKkUKb-ITyRXq3UoUTlk02IjbMBtEaCYuDWKiM3HddnBGhrVkd_0Ws3N5d-fn_BGyq8tKuIsrbKa_9DRpBdxiOIo80/s320/IMG_9550.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My next step was to connect all the states and attach them to a large piece of duct cloth (or is it duck?) Double faced, iron on interfacing worked perfect for this step! I just needed to make sure that there was enough overlap of the states to keep them from separating. Some states were thicker than others so this was a bit of a challenge but it worked out. I then outlined each state with a zig zag stitch being sure to use a heavy needle in my machine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7WQE78FrE4Mso989GkNfPul6hRvYf2rntNTUHl39ftZpi7vQigqnlNPdXamnl4vU42hCTw30dO6xtZ-8v7kxndiXSMbKrdh2XlK5W_npx6IPRURLWTYEyC6qKK-PzhmeuajsOFu4_7nM/s1600/IMG_9554.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7WQE78FrE4Mso989GkNfPul6hRvYf2rntNTUHl39ftZpi7vQigqnlNPdXamnl4vU42hCTw30dO6xtZ-8v7kxndiXSMbKrdh2XlK5W_npx6IPRURLWTYEyC6qKK-PzhmeuajsOFu4_7nM/s320/IMG_9554.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I even included Alaska and Hawaii in the bottom corner! I wanted to have this large and soft enough that he could lay it on the floor, or drape over his bed, but I also wanted to give him the ability to hang it on the wall one day so I added plenty of grommets along the top edge. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTlAhyphenhyphenjHANHqZvqt1wmafJkYioQmuYqs9R3vU9VSc238Ed-EfRtOuxyNrn2ujf8VFWpkR30cW0zd2WiwjMJNaNb8WLg1NihOPwDTzNhWieuk0Lf2qPglCVhXMmR179m3tOvj8_Y2MxG7A/s1600/IMG_9553.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTlAhyphenhyphenjHANHqZvqt1wmafJkYioQmuYqs9R3vU9VSc238Ed-EfRtOuxyNrn2ujf8VFWpkR30cW0zd2WiwjMJNaNb8WLg1NihOPwDTzNhWieuk0Lf2qPglCVhXMmR179m3tOvj8_Y2MxG7A/s320/IMG_9553.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally, because Caden is a little pirate and lives in Virginia, I found a cute pirate boy patch and attached it to his home state. I had a bunch of really cute pirate flag charms (left over from my invitation making days) and thought these would be a perfect way for him to track all the states he has explored! I tied a little red string to 50 charms and attached a little safety pin to them. I asked Caden's mom for a list of all the states he has visited and went ahead and "pinned" those states, sending a baggie of remaining charms to his mom (he's was only 4 after all).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ5T98QcxBDMctrTAYHDZuCeoVdUro7AzLtcSMF8u9bnWnh72jaMIPnDbNbexKVtkJ7K95E872hUKsVhKWyDYx4gmAmfplq9NdSMiNFw7cW2DYU-3jO8wm4bYlSQugSHjbB2KkdYqRvTQ/s1600/IMG_9551.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ5T98QcxBDMctrTAYHDZuCeoVdUro7AzLtcSMF8u9bnWnh72jaMIPnDbNbexKVtkJ7K95E872hUKsVhKWyDYx4gmAmfplq9NdSMiNFw7cW2DYU-3jO8wm4bYlSQugSHjbB2KkdYqRvTQ/s320/IMG_9551.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This was such a fun project for me to make, not just because it was for Caden, but in general. I can imagine it made from anything; recycled T shirts would be really cute. I love the idea of reusing rather than buying new. Like I always say, "It's not always what it is. Sometimes it's what it can be"<br />

I didn't like that room because it was just bland in color, had only one sink and had a closet in there (steamed the clothes with each shower!) Anyway, I digress. The one good thing about that bath was the mirror hanging over the sink. It looked like it had been hanging there since the house was built.<br />
<br />
So 10 years after we moved into our home we tore the master bath apart and created a new one (which I love!) Here's the thing... like I said, I liked the mirror and wanted to move it to another room in the house, but it had years and years of gunk built up on it so a renewal was required.<br />
<br />
Here's what I did.....<br />
<br />
First I had to clean it. I used a mild soap in a bowl of water and a soft toothbrush. Little by little I scrubbed away the years of gunk. In some areas the leaf was completely rubbed off but that's ok, I can fix that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNpVjNfDnZ2e1tI_-Qov8EE6NLqev3Oe_f4DmOv9CURdBZiu-69GxccOI2oYqgZlFgEUmJVxP6Oidomi_kXj8rLX3a5foD238TIWdqtFl8NZuqZ6YA-9aJyuOZrHEcRdXvcS8nhAehS1c/s1600/Mirror+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNpVjNfDnZ2e1tI_-Qov8EE6NLqev3Oe_f4DmOv9CURdBZiu-69GxccOI2oYqgZlFgEUmJVxP6Oidomi_kXj8rLX3a5foD238TIWdqtFl8NZuqZ6YA-9aJyuOZrHEcRdXvcS8nhAehS1c/s320/Mirror+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I had the gunk off, I painted the whole thing gold with Martha Stewart's Gold Leaf Paint, purchased at Michaels.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio08QyegMN7pyqzm6W1LLh9ShmnZTBTktC6PwRaUXY8j26BivGrkxK-3fc29ppkBlVEqjyOvmxhGYh0E9vmsVqBltveYLgNLpmsAivpmQHeom4N9Ob6kejj2eF0pcDCohr7RFHuQ10vmQ/s1600/Mirror+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio08QyegMN7pyqzm6W1LLh9ShmnZTBTktC6PwRaUXY8j26BivGrkxK-3fc29ppkBlVEqjyOvmxhGYh0E9vmsVqBltveYLgNLpmsAivpmQHeom4N9Ob6kejj2eF0pcDCohr7RFHuQ10vmQ/s320/Mirror+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I could have left it at that, it was quite beautiful, but my home really isn't a Gold Leaf kind of home. I wanted to age it a bit. So I made a simple wash with black acrylic paint and water. Using a sponge, I dabbed the wash on and gently wiped it off the raised surfaces with a soft cloth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG36aMGxkRr4lW9oUwht7qQRIA3-7FeJ051k5AM2AdMeoz3Zv8hZUeWbKDozpb_bkOHvxLCxOdGP-sk5CXCwvTldyRQk57qF1ByDoehHqF9q3lbzCgAey28QHCCJ2O6ljlfIrNq-5bZD4/s1600/Mirror+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiG36aMGxkRr4lW9oUwht7qQRIA3-7FeJ051k5AM2AdMeoz3Zv8hZUeWbKDozpb_bkOHvxLCxOdGP-sk5CXCwvTldyRQk57qF1ByDoehHqF9q3lbzCgAey28QHCCJ2O6ljlfIrNq-5bZD4/s320/Mirror+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had a little tube of silver leaf paste so I rubbed a bit of that on in various spots so it wouldn't look uniform but naturally aged. I didn't seal this because I'm ok with it getting old and aged again, but you could seal it with a brush on or spray on sealant. <br />
<br />
I love the finished project and it is now hanging by the front door over a sideboard table! Beautiful!<br />
<br />

<br />
Pumpkin, pumpkin, who has the pumpkin? I do! I'm feeling Autumn coming on (or what we get of Autumn in Scottsdale AZ). To me that means temps drop under 100 and an occasional rainy day but most of all I can tell by the sky. It grows a deeper shade of blue as the cooler season comes around.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I've strayed from my original thought of pumpkins. Easy to do since I've been locked up in the "studio" for days making these wonderful little treasures!<br />
<br />
Velvet pumpkins have always been a favorite of mine. In fact I keep some of them displayed in my home year around! I wanted to do something a bit different with my pumpkins. <br />
<br />
These beautiful pumpkins were harvested from the silver patch. They are filled with magic beans, silky soft fluff, fantasies and fairytales!<br />
<br />
They are available in my Etsy shop while they last!<br />

It was so wonderful. Leaving 113 degree Arizona days for 65 degree Monterey days was Heavenly! My new batch of soldered bottles remind me of that Heavenly escape!<br />
<br />
I mixed things up a bit with this batch of bottles. While watching TV one evening, I turned to Hubby and said "I wonder, why I don't embellish my art more. I mean, look around our home, I embellish everything!" I am so happy I had that thought because I think adding the jewelry to these bottles really makes them beautiful!<br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First, gather your tools: Old books (you can keep existing dust jackets on them and just cover over them or remove the dust jacket), a roll of Kraft paper (or any other paper...you could even use cool shopping bags!) Large ruler, tape measure, pencil and x-acto knife or scissor.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6WuxNddYqKYW_xV-hBX4m2k_0BwsF7jhI5svKJJqjZ5__By1NhZ70ufeBqKUm3Tch6HcpFG2EPDutpUONp_hfLthU3-7FsDkjMn6Jp3btsyQqN9bXpcwQqtIvjKbc9Z9BeIpZ_4mgykE/s1600/Bookcover+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6WuxNddYqKYW_xV-hBX4m2k_0BwsF7jhI5svKJJqjZ5__By1NhZ70ufeBqKUm3Tch6HcpFG2EPDutpUONp_hfLthU3-7FsDkjMn6Jp3btsyQqN9bXpcwQqtIvjKbc9Z9BeIpZ_4mgykE/s320/Bookcover+2.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now, take your book measurements. Measure top to bottom and distance around. Mine, shown here, measured about 8 1/2 x 13.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmpEkAoDnJWAklwX-ohfSm0pnc5dNgC_A7AyKihwdqRVVOOyqlp0sVBeSu36xIdRT3x68R1BycmO1HpDOZF7SUDIWKes-ccmIh3fW83pA_0umOiASmhWKKaFUox3xbkphp378Mwa28mgo/s1600/bookcover+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmpEkAoDnJWAklwX-ohfSm0pnc5dNgC_A7AyKihwdqRVVOOyqlp0sVBeSu36xIdRT3x68R1BycmO1HpDOZF7SUDIWKes-ccmIh3fW83pA_0umOiASmhWKKaFUox3xbkphp378Mwa28mgo/s320/bookcover+3.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Add a couple inches to all sides and cut the paper to match. You can see I added about 3 inches to the top and bottom and about 2 inches to each end. Next, fold down the top and bottom giving the folds a nice crease. Top to bottom should be just slightly larger than your book. Then fold in each end the same way (before creasing you might want to wrap it around your book to be sure the length is comfortable, even when the book is closed.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next, slip one side of the book into the cover, then do the same with the other side (you may need to open the book wide to easily insert the second cover without tearing the paper).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie27zqY9Lm_jZ-PC2VzlWQn8hMphjoFOOI5haVgtv3GpqPjxdZNuGWTnLH2L1vuZu5hmSTNfBPOtrXm3_zZSqUSAzysHZU2QrQShNnwHNjj5WFBGpcqIu5Cdf7ogXpWlWRVgCovEZXvss/s1600/Bookcover+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie27zqY9Lm_jZ-PC2VzlWQn8hMphjoFOOI5haVgtv3GpqPjxdZNuGWTnLH2L1vuZu5hmSTNfBPOtrXm3_zZSqUSAzysHZU2QrQShNnwHNjj5WFBGpcqIu5Cdf7ogXpWlWRVgCovEZXvss/s320/Bookcover+4.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBpXm1nBwyRnim-nTptncOPChrWQrMAUO5DYwPv5jiP6mhMwknmBF-AREscTzMiSaHmRDD3ipZ6M_0N1CQ0kV4p6XSOq3mxwWbcw-2GthrazwEH2HoIan9J5pqGj_k5ArVg85rrRm8KoE/s1600/bookcover+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBpXm1nBwyRnim-nTptncOPChrWQrMAUO5DYwPv5jiP6mhMwknmBF-AREscTzMiSaHmRDD3ipZ6M_0N1CQ0kV4p6XSOq3mxwWbcw-2GthrazwEH2HoIan9J5pqGj_k5ArVg85rrRm8KoE/s320/bookcover+6.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">No glue, no tape, NOTHING holds the cover on the book? That's right. It's like magic! But actually you can see here that the folds themselves are what hold the book in place.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHtFTdlLuhLKY_QFLcTAB7NfaP5SxYwUD8aZzSAwTKrXti_jLzxuTsGWhJQ5aKtIkxKY7Tw0wtlxouAnFhjKdVe6n6ehbY7gPzHgVEyMYlZyjxscRCGD-alCz5jhnrieC1fPBN1yb3lBE/s1600/Bookcover+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHtFTdlLuhLKY_QFLcTAB7NfaP5SxYwUD8aZzSAwTKrXti_jLzxuTsGWhJQ5aKtIkxKY7Tw0wtlxouAnFhjKdVe6n6ehbY7gPzHgVEyMYlZyjxscRCGD-alCz5jhnrieC1fPBN1yb3lBE/s320/Bookcover+5.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And here you have it....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI3Qxki3K_PwmpLfidBlLic9tEpvpaZDxdOnRKlhogLlD-HOte7X00f_k78Ez6ZEcfYgDuzqecN0RIeuowoRx0vwMmrq01IUdaW2rqf1bPUuRd1UWVahq9n-X9Px4L2lv92V7hpHvsejI/s1600/Bookcover+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI3Qxki3K_PwmpLfidBlLic9tEpvpaZDxdOnRKlhogLlD-HOte7X00f_k78Ez6ZEcfYgDuzqecN0RIeuowoRx0vwMmrq01IUdaW2rqf1bPUuRd1UWVahq9n-X9Px4L2lv92V7hpHvsejI/s320/Bookcover+7.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But wait! I'm not finished....... I really liked the look of all these books stacked together, and I really liked the way the pages were at various stages of "yellow", but being me, and knowing that these books were for decorative purposes, I needed a bit more embellishment.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhia-bVLhyphenhyphenjpe5_2ZAY6ejpNS-atIK4ZuAzeJhk_iWnFZ3NE31jJ89yRW9eWI3KPk4f8W_voGQR1bWhiNmoofFc0HVucmYn_yeeq12gfH-eEOuAszvafWB2r1p6G2M89JxuBuynWhHnsDc/s1600/Bookcover+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhia-bVLhyphenhyphenjpe5_2ZAY6ejpNS-atIK4ZuAzeJhk_iWnFZ3NE31jJ89yRW9eWI3KPk4f8W_voGQR1bWhiNmoofFc0HVucmYn_yeeq12gfH-eEOuAszvafWB2r1p6G2M89JxuBuynWhHnsDc/s320/Bookcover+8.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So I added some decorative tape, found at Michaels. (You can leave this step off if you want, or you could draw or do some beautiful lettering on the cover. The options are limitless!)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW0V4p-qPGYm06fhG7SpBjvpV1Ts8nVpHW51e5PCHGk2-GDqqOl0PFyfNFOziJdpXGBXihlEBAQvED_5bALAGF7Se5q5QxJdbqJHL5wRTO5DLtZvTM_3VhQPOlsThqtTJBmswQ2mlAoDM/s1600/Bookcover+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW0V4p-qPGYm06fhG7SpBjvpV1Ts8nVpHW51e5PCHGk2-GDqqOl0PFyfNFOziJdpXGBXihlEBAQvED_5bALAGF7Se5q5QxJdbqJHL5wRTO5DLtZvTM_3VhQPOlsThqtTJBmswQ2mlAoDM/s320/Bookcover+9.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And ta-da! A beautiful, inexpensive way to dress up your books!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTPdSwKgsX0h3iw1TwKS0AueBnhX2AW2ON486sN_xUPhxvRUR_DhzHz6jqY6jYqmqmlT6rzs1ckJCXIrg-Lv8n8KiglNLRoErd4r_VKU17lSS17x945tr8ctbFogtOwRd3xQVhNjnFEEg/s1600/Bookcover+10+.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTPdSwKgsX0h3iw1TwKS0AueBnhX2AW2ON486sN_xUPhxvRUR_DhzHz6jqY6jYqmqmlT6rzs1ckJCXIrg-Lv8n8KiglNLRoErd4r_VKU17lSS17x945tr8ctbFogtOwRd3xQVhNjnFEEg/s320/Bookcover+10+.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh, BTW, I had an adorable audience during this project. They were so good, they deserved TWO treats! Good Girls!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1I6aPOCdnBBuBRmp_6t7apAyN1-kTGuwclvX2CiseqNeURNqyNxmmernIh5TbnJjz1Q80TNSeyXnYZ6nJqqgp_ci6pQHD9bbPQwFfsrB0u5j5ZMqO8h752W72aowrnjE4qWABXraB0sA/s1600/Bookcover+Audience.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1I6aPOCdnBBuBRmp_6t7apAyN1-kTGuwclvX2CiseqNeURNqyNxmmernIh5TbnJjz1Q80TNSeyXnYZ6nJqqgp_ci6pQHD9bbPQwFfsrB0u5j5ZMqO8h752W72aowrnjE4qWABXraB0sA/s320/Bookcover+Audience.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway, I love these book covers. Like I said you could make them out of wrapping paper, Kraft paper, brown paper bags or even out of a cool shopping bag from your favorite mall or store! Great for back to school and a great project to involve your kids, even teens! As a bonus, it will save the life of those expensive school books! Who doesn't love that?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I hope you try this great idea. If you do, share your results with me! I'd love to see what you come up with!</span><br />

Sorry. I'll explain more on that later.<br />
<br />
For now, though, I wanted to share with you my new obsession! I have discovered soldering! OMG, it is a blast and a fun change from making my dolls. (I love making my dolls but yearned for something new this summer)<br />
<br />
I've been hitting every antique mart that I can find in Arizona and California on the hunt for antique bottles. Even filled an empty suitcase with bottles on our holiday in Monterey.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzAlU_NHxVD_FuMX9xvK-pjJDbyvSQhAshgO6ZYnh1zHh8oG2oBGwmF21KesxZYQ9cSM8mwcFWbbcuLHDcs1Wq2LAMwcKlAgarzP3HVZkESZzOmXBzR14__UEP0t7xRjnd3a0oqrxPrfE/s1600/antique+bottles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzAlU_NHxVD_FuMX9xvK-pjJDbyvSQhAshgO6ZYnh1zHh8oG2oBGwmF21KesxZYQ9cSM8mwcFWbbcuLHDcs1Wq2LAMwcKlAgarzP3HVZkESZzOmXBzR14__UEP0t7xRjnd3a0oqrxPrfE/s320/antique+bottles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've found a lot of really great bottles. Next I dug through my vast collection of shells and coral. I have shells from California, Mexico, Florida and beyond! (just a sample here)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3prkxlz17d29PokQjDMk8gXO_vzUSSBo90PduifwSlYG2qB7GzkW2n3-hiPfnxiEEmN5QENcX6622tnXHCf3nWCzOfDmt1ZDwMH-v6lp8uxGmzVbqjp4-s8TaTVeFE4CawsIl-U2NpR8/s1600/collection.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3prkxlz17d29PokQjDMk8gXO_vzUSSBo90PduifwSlYG2qB7GzkW2n3-hiPfnxiEEmN5QENcX6622tnXHCf3nWCzOfDmt1ZDwMH-v6lp8uxGmzVbqjp4-s8TaTVeFE4CawsIl-U2NpR8/s320/collection.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then the fun began...planning, taping, soldering and applying the patina. I'm obsessed!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I've placed some of these beautiful creations in my Etsy shop. Come visit!<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;">We've been so busy of late. Moved Mom into an assisted living apartment, moved our company offices and making an effort to clean out Mom's old house. What do you do with 82 years of a woman's possessions? </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">So I was trying to find a little creative time. I found it was so hard to create a full sized doll when I only had snippets of time. I started "sketching" little dogs (I use the term "sketch" loosely here). Then thought, what the heck, I'm going to make that "sketch" out of clay and put a little sweater on it. This is what I came up with....<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">this is "Patches"...</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzs3_hRfdOg1WFBFExIKQF4hy9pWfJSxL779tx85Bt1zYFc_aVbK9Xs29fZ_eKcp92XRKSuprfY1CYbwrZm8bmzIYd1TCfaXxL25Xtemw_KUq8WLu0OLbhyBID3V0gYh5ZF0acoQGQDxE/s1600/Patches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzs3_hRfdOg1WFBFExIKQF4hy9pWfJSxL779tx85Bt1zYFc_aVbK9Xs29fZ_eKcp92XRKSuprfY1CYbwrZm8bmzIYd1TCfaXxL25Xtemw_KUq8WLu0OLbhyBID3V0gYh5ZF0acoQGQDxE/s400/Patches.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">and this is "Stitch"...</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggcD2mS0qDft17If7IDelM9fRDWM7mjKeH_aDW7sErJKF2ujM_uj8eQm2rYSJVjAKzCUIXJ7ppbcZqZOhRFH2LVNboMtIErDgk-zNTTUuUW-5IR_0b7lp7sVFuYnInzLBZYmsYIruViO8/s1600/Stitch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggcD2mS0qDft17If7IDelM9fRDWM7mjKeH_aDW7sErJKF2ujM_uj8eQm2rYSJVjAKzCUIXJ7ppbcZqZOhRFH2LVNboMtIErDgk-zNTTUuUW-5IR_0b7lp7sVFuYnInzLBZYmsYIruViO8/s400/Stitch.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Lesson learned...Even when life gets busy, confusing and frustrating, there is always time to create!</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">Happy Creating!</div><br />

When I was little, my family lived in New Jersey and before that Chicago. I remember making snow angels every winter and just loving it! I could fill up the whole yard with snow angels if Dad would have let me! </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />
</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">So when I set out to make an angel doll, </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">I knew she had to be a snow angel! </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif; line-height: 16px;">Edwina delights in snowy winter days. That tends to happen this time of year with the holidays rapidly approaching. This year I'm trying to create a handmade gift for those on my list. Throw in a couple holiday parties and before you know it time has slipped away.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Anyway I wanted to share with you the painting I created of our little Maggie...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I started with torn pieces of decorative paper. Simply ripped them into squares and rectangles and attached them as a mosaic on the canvas (this one is 24 x 36) and attached with a gel medium.</div><div style="text-align: center;">Then, after it dried, I sketched the outline of Maggie and used a white Gesso to paint the basic shape. I used the photo I took of her with her pumpkin as the model.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNKuC14QQNpE7b9FKG36n5VC7QD3yiTQ8l3B0YbOG_fwFXmGgcJJVNdJDQb-j2CjCEmeAcBIroVUrZ3v1haTkipWdy8evn8xGnpsn2gD6PW66E-S9ubvuZjBNDALtR3sHWmCullqhxpBw/s1600/Maggie+Paint+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNKuC14QQNpE7b9FKG36n5VC7QD3yiTQ8l3B0YbOG_fwFXmGgcJJVNdJDQb-j2CjCEmeAcBIroVUrZ3v1haTkipWdy8evn8xGnpsn2gD6PW66E-S9ubvuZjBNDALtR3sHWmCullqhxpBw/s640/Maggie+Paint+2.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">When that was dried, the fun started. I painted the background using a wash of green, then added texture using some bubble wrap and an old credit card. I had actually added a wash of blue on the top portion of the canvas but decided I didn't like it so I just tore up a bit more paper and covered it up. I used liquid acrylics to layer in Maggie's fur and detail her features.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg87IB7beNSNK-hDnBHiFhz9Xk9UjFaFlDRTUv1ADtwsdfPZnMI3wwV7sEeyIpGps43NJ6W2UQyFxumTBQrQL5ZSc7qKCl62O8YU63mjYjtDMC8QTcKwQFbHowxNjsQVxKKNIf4ND2xFA/s1600/Mag3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg87IB7beNSNK-hDnBHiFhz9Xk9UjFaFlDRTUv1ADtwsdfPZnMI3wwV7sEeyIpGps43NJ6W2UQyFxumTBQrQL5ZSc7qKCl62O8YU63mjYjtDMC8QTcKwQFbHowxNjsQVxKKNIf4ND2xFA/s640/Mag3.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Finally, I added in some shading, again with liquid acrylics.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaR0itTawgtVFGdG3HPz58RC7T0ozRuCku7OvJoIQuPRdTk3-8FWhpvCQvNpxg9Oybvt46q5WXLKn1e448m02jWbQ6jQJZg5a9dD9k-KNB7J39cmhL39WaSQTYJInU4c4SITnveFxzPiY/s1600/Maggie+Painting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaR0itTawgtVFGdG3HPz58RC7T0ozRuCku7OvJoIQuPRdTk3-8FWhpvCQvNpxg9Oybvt46q5WXLKn1e448m02jWbQ6jQJZg5a9dD9k-KNB7J39cmhL39WaSQTYJInU4c4SITnveFxzPiY/s640/Maggie+Painting.jpg" width="430" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This was the largest painting I'd done to date. It was a lot of fun! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Have a happy day!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Yesterday we carved my pumpkin. Tried to make it look like me but I think it kinda looks like a cat! Oh well, a cat is appropriate for today, isn't it?</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ-gXeggQFaztstqm8AlQiSwg5b-FoEeRBIBOWwGyriZ-9T1_kP809YxWhxzjJpbEaOgnR7PhYtba7f8MI_wzaO7UyWFWHvQ6YA2RUbcQRVA_d09m71YwROl9hlugsKtWWVDQHTvwu-aI/s1600/Pumpkin.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ-gXeggQFaztstqm8AlQiSwg5b-FoEeRBIBOWwGyriZ-9T1_kP809YxWhxzjJpbEaOgnR7PhYtba7f8MI_wzaO7UyWFWHvQ6YA2RUbcQRVA_d09m71YwROl9hlugsKtWWVDQHTvwu-aI/s320/Pumpkin.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">We have another pumpkin to carve today to get ready for fun tonight. This is my first Halloween so I'm really excited! So have fun everyone! <br />
Happy Halloween! Love, Maggie!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Well, she might be more of a squash, I think. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Regardless, this is Gretchen with her little Kitty....</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAfoeWl8cZY9jMF2eRSF4jjZICZUZeFz78C4GMouM1omBer7wC43nA5oykuSHZ7XN57sHrmfFsmylxsD8EbylOHcCjfLvNAXgSsDGZgNhXEZDHYwmVWd1VzIGXS9QGhEmwD7eto3xgH_A/s1600/Gretchen+1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" rda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAfoeWl8cZY9jMF2eRSF4jjZICZUZeFz78C4GMouM1omBer7wC43nA5oykuSHZ7XN57sHrmfFsmylxsD8EbylOHcCjfLvNAXgSsDGZgNhXEZDHYwmVWd1VzIGXS9QGhEmwD7eto3xgH_A/s320/Gretchen+1.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Gretchen is wearing her favorite little frock that her mom made for her. She loves the big orange spots!</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGWew_Nb0TT-T_VhjrqSyT_i-KlU_bCVbKfTzlhDOpUmZQ7L0YGQB0qcRCkuknFkm0B3JtTX4giqpj5rf2sP6kHgfT6okRfSefhTyvoiF6ToxphrQlxfSwGbvyHKvO07d9GifA6viAilk/s1600/Gretchen+6.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" rda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGWew_Nb0TT-T_VhjrqSyT_i-KlU_bCVbKfTzlhDOpUmZQ7L0YGQB0qcRCkuknFkm0B3JtTX4giqpj5rf2sP6kHgfT6okRfSefhTyvoiF6ToxphrQlxfSwGbvyHKvO07d9GifA6viAilk/s320/Gretchen+6.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">If you are wondering about the sly smile on Gretchen's face, it could be because she is secretly plotting how to paint Kitty black with big orange spots so she can match her favorite frock, but she knows she would get into big trouble if she did that! Still.......</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5puH3Wuq0qQ-eKxs4r4HLTTm_H7Uv2lCXwMkVSjEdNqPFM_hNS5GyAo_voj0Lm8wbih-t_5v9L29sBwM9OlmT4fyDNFnCsEl79WZTkBxKu9iUJVgZ4QaWhyVKuSsfYYO8e1Ya4iyv5IA/s1600/Gretchen+8.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="263" rda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5puH3Wuq0qQ-eKxs4r4HLTTm_H7Uv2lCXwMkVSjEdNqPFM_hNS5GyAo_voj0Lm8wbih-t_5v9L29sBwM9OlmT4fyDNFnCsEl79WZTkBxKu9iUJVgZ4QaWhyVKuSsfYYO8e1Ya4iyv5IA/s320/Gretchen+8.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Gretchen is about 8 inches tall. She is a semi-posable shelf sitter (cannot stand on her own). She is purely sculpted with paperclay. Her arms and legs are sculpted with polymer clay. She is then painted and stained with professional liquid acrylics. Her eyes are glass.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Living in the desert can be frustrating sometimes. Autumn is my favorite time of year. I'm so inspired by all the wonderful rich colors! But when it's still over 100 degrees during the day, and you can't get out of town, you have to be a bit more creative when looking for that inspiration.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZuzO87ABMK0WfukdvmKBfgC64N_kvgGpYaN528TK06Mu2GGrX7rLe0PYiDz7gPgx9oLJuDCJ4Lni1bk85PhQCG1XUjdDItVIlnwsBhiMFsgSnK_dGOo8l7GvzNUCKrWLvDbhAsp17dTE/s1600/frys1photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZuzO87ABMK0WfukdvmKBfgC64N_kvgGpYaN528TK06Mu2GGrX7rLe0PYiDz7gPgx9oLJuDCJ4Lni1bk85PhQCG1XUjdDItVIlnwsBhiMFsgSnK_dGOo8l7GvzNUCKrWLvDbhAsp17dTE/s320/frys1photo.JPG" width="239" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Leave it to Fry's Marketplace to give me some Autumn inspiration! I so loved their display that I pulled out my iPhone and snapped some photos! A mom with her two children saw me do that and was inspired to photograph her kids (much to the horror of her teenager) as if they were in a pumpkin patch! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br />

She describes how she purchased one of my birds and step by step of opening the package and a description of the piece. You can read the full review at <a href="http://thedabblingmum.blogspot.com/search/label/Art%20Reviews">http://thedabblingmum.blogspot.com/search/label/Art%20Reviews</a> I've only posted a part below...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange;">"September 12, 2011, posted on the 13th</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange;"></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange;">Sometimes there are advantages to reading the art blogs of artists you admire… and on September 1st, I had one of those moments.</span></div><span style="color: orange;"><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div></span><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange;">You see, Kitty D, of Pumpkinhead Studio (http://pumpkinheadstudio.blogspot.com/2011/09/take-flight-to-imagination.html), had just posted some gorgeous photos of her latest artwork (photos by the way that had me drooling for a new camera, or at the very least the background paper she was using!) and instantly, I knew I wanted that piece........</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange;">The tag reads, "Take Flight to the Imagination"… </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: orange;">What a perfect sentiment for someone who is ready to "take flight" herself…"</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

Not just because it was about my work, but in general! Alyice writes great reviews, adding in photos, building the anticipation then telling you where to find what she is reviewing. </div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">Hop on over to Alyice's blog, <a href="http://www.thedabblingmum.blogspot.com/">http://www.thedabblingmum.blogspot.com/</a> where you will find reviews of art, books, music, food and much more. Cathy is a bit apprehensive about Halloween this year because she is certain that her big sister will smash her pumpkin again, and mom will make Cathy clean up the yucky mess! </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPOBaeziM85YOaL9J-7EKRhpgHngsLhGaKtrJ7qZdKs_0Q55JdWoFoc5I5S1iBi1EvpZbAm0CB_IMnywYQpVeTTd3QGkKGJTliICtDt1FKEVUGNxOK1VhgdSqWPI9NZ4y44rLESGKACFA/s1600/Cathy+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hca="true" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPOBaeziM85YOaL9J-7EKRhpgHngsLhGaKtrJ7qZdKs_0Q55JdWoFoc5I5S1iBi1EvpZbAm0CB_IMnywYQpVeTTd3QGkKGJTliICtDt1FKEVUGNxOK1VhgdSqWPI9NZ4y44rLESGKACFA/s640/Cathy+1.jpg" width="451" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I'm not exactly sure what happened when I was creating Cathy, but her face came out completely different than my previous dolls. Funny how that happens even though I used the same materials and sculpted her in the same manner. Maybe it is just because of the expression on her face. <br />
A bit haunted, no?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyDcffqJAKUMwbQE1ty2EQXaW3UbPWhlqoX1BxYGNu0WLWDjk8TLoGUqGEEqa9EXhJxh4arOx4Mbj6kjK3q3Wm9yuXbq3n9yWEzZu8tL0HgGgRDWms1LwRI_iVHB9JoBMq30ETUYsiqN4/s1600/Cathy+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" hca="true" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyDcffqJAKUMwbQE1ty2EQXaW3UbPWhlqoX1BxYGNu0WLWDjk8TLoGUqGEEqa9EXhJxh4arOx4Mbj6kjK3q3Wm9yuXbq3n9yWEzZu8tL0HgGgRDWms1LwRI_iVHB9JoBMq30ETUYsiqN4/s400/Cathy+4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Cathy's outfit is all hand-stitched so you can see tiny stitches. The fabrics were chosen from scraps and tea stained. Her hair is dyed mohair and her eyes are glass.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">Cathy would like to send a warning out to everyone....protect your pumpkins this Halloween! </div><div style="text-align: center;">It is very sad when they are smashed, not to mention yucky to clean up!</div>Kitty Dhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14413595807392978071noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5165377726846935190.post-68684009603399837692011-09-18T20:47:00.000-07:002011-09-18T20:47:14.177-07:00Oh so sweet!<div style="text-align: center;">I'm just so in LOVE with little Maggie! I regret that I haven't kept up with my blog of late, but I have a REALLY good excuse! We adopted a new little love on September 4th! Meet Maggie......<br />
<br />

Maggie has such a wonderful story. If you live in the Phoenix area you may have seen her story on the news. I added the news video to my sidebar but I'll share the story with you...<br />
<br />
June, 16, 2011 at approximately 10:00 p.m. it was still 108 degrees in Mesa. A stray dog gave birth to a litter of 6 that evening in the yard of an abandonded house. Knowing that it wasn't safe for her pups to be exposed to the heat for long, Momma left her pups, just hours old, and walked out to the middle of the street, where she sat and waited. Several cars passed her but one nice couple stopped to help. Momma led them up the driveway and into the yard directly to her puppies! <br />
<br />
This kind couple scooped up the puppies and the mom and took them home where they called the Animals Benefit Club (ABC) shelter. ABC came out to pick up mom and all the pups the next morning. The couple who rescued them will adopt the mom, Sophia. We were fortunate enough to adopt Maggie. She was with her mom a full 9 weeks and with her siblings for 11 weeks.<br />
<br />
Animals Benefit Club (ABC) is a non-profit no-kill shelter. If you would like to make a donation to this loving group and their four legged charges please do so on their website @ <a href="http://www.animalsbenefitclub.com/">http://www.animalsbenefitclub.com/</a><br />
They have recently made a deal with the bank whereby they can pay $100,000.00 to pay off their mortgage by the end of September. This is just a fraction of their mortgage and would be a huge benefit to them. It would ensure that they could continue caring for the many animals living there and continue to find loving, permanent homes for all. Please help if you are able.<br />
<br />
P.S. Sorry this is so long, but one more thing....for those of you in the Phoenix area, as of last Friday, they still had 4 of Maggie's siblings! They are really cute and if they are anything like Maggie, they would be a wonderful addition to your family! ;o)Kitty Dhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14413595807392978071noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5165377726846935190.post-70445026202493682572011-09-06T03:53:00.000-07:002011-09-06T03:53:35.586-07:00Embrace Your Youthful Heart<div style="text-align: center;">For some people, aging is a depressing thought. Not for me. I'm fine with getting older BUT that doesn't mean I have to give up my youthful heart and youthful attitude! Those were my thoughts when I created this inspired bird. This little guy lives in a tie-dyed world where birds wear peace signs and high-top sneakers with tie-dyed ribbons! I think he might have flown over Woodstock! (oops! Did I just "age" myself?)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

One thing led to another and I started creating Inspired Birds. He is sculpted from PaperClay and painted with artist acrylics and pastels then crackled for an aged look. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">This little guy lives in a beautiful, imaginative world where birds wear sneakers and caps with propellers. His tag reads "Take Flight to the Imagination".</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I hope he inspires you to visit your imagination today!</div><br />

Although I hate to admit it, I was her age in the 80s so I was more than happy to help her out. This is a photo of the finished product, all accessorized. I must say the model makes it look fabulous!<br />
